Organic is the way to go. This is a controversial food subject. And there are many other reasons to go organic. But the two simple reasons I prefer organic is:
1. NO artificial and/or toxic pesticides – Proponents of conventional produce like to claim that tests show no appreciable pesticide residue on most conventional produce. The dirty little secret is that they usually only test for illegal pesticides. There isn’t a need to run tests for legal pesticides, which are used for most conventional fruits and vegetables. Thanks to the folks at EWG for their treasure trove of facts and figures:

2. virtually NO GMOs (genetically-modified organisms) – When one discovers how GMO’s were developed, researched, introduced, and approved for use in the USA, it’s eye-opening, and exposes the breakdown of “checks and balances” that is suppose to be one of our government’s cornerstones. In most industrialized nations in the world, GMO’s are banned, or required to be labeled. Thanks to the lobbying efforts of the largest petro-chemical and GMO producing companies, along with the revolving door between the those corporate executives and government positions such as the FDA, we have a total breakdown of consumer protection at the expense of corporate greed.
Even though it may cost extra to buy organic foods, we feel it is an investment in our health. We reduce the intake of GMO’s and also reduce the amount of toxins entering our bodies. While it’s virtually impossible to eat 100% organic or healthy foods only, we do so where we can. And just as it’s important to support companies and merchants that we believe in, it’s important to support the organic food industry.
